Before You Trust an AI Answer, Look at the Records

Descartes' Datamyne AI Agent answers trade questions and lets people inspect the shipment records behind the answer.

A plain-language trade question points to a stack of shipment records a person can inspect.

It is easy to mistake a clean AI answer for a solid answer. That is why the records matter.

Descartes has added an AI agent to Datamyne, a tool companies use to look up records about goods moving between countries. Someone can ask about suppliers, competing companies, tariffs, product categories, or demand. Descartes says the agent gives an answer, shows visualizations, and lets the person open the shipment records behind it.

A shipment record is the information tied to a shipment. It can show which companies were involved, when it moved, the kind of product, and the trade relationship in the data. Looking at those records helps a buyer, sales team, or supply-chain person test an answer before repeating it in a meeting or making a decision.

Descartes says Datamyne covers 230 markets and adds more than 500 million shipment records each year. The company also says the agent can reduce research time by up to 90 percent. That will depend on the question, the available records, and the person doing the work. These are Descartes’ numbers, not a promise.

The tool can make the first part of the job faster. The records help a person do the next part: decide what the information means.
